Aline Reis
Aline ReisStrategic account manager, Schools, Sodexo Brazil

I've always been really passionate about nutrition, so when I joined Sodexo as an intern 10 years ago, I couldn’t have asked for a better first project. It was an initiative called Sodexo Kids, focused on creating nutrition education lessons for school kids. I was still studying at college at the time – actually writing my thesis on the subject – so it was the perfect chance to dive in and learn as much as I could.

I threw myself into the operational side of the business in Brazil spending time in the kitchen working alongside the chefs and nutritionist. I had some incredible people training me, including my Sodexo mentor Lilian Gonzalez, Thais Caetano and my college professors.

I quickly realized this was the career for me. When I finished my internship and graduated, Sodexo offered me my first permanent role as a restaurant supervisor within the contract, responsible for three school restaurants. I spent eight years there, progressing to assistant manager and growing and developing my knowledge as I went along.

Sodexo had been running facilities management services at the school since 2019, but this was our opportunity to show them what we could provide the children by way of tasty, nutritious food. It was a big contract and quite the challenge, serving 1,800 meals a day.

That set the scene for an exciting next stage in my career; I’d built such a good relationship with the client that I was asked to stay and head it up. There was huge potential to expand, and we now have four Eleva schools, and I’m the strategic account manager for the contract.

It’s been an incredible journey – from starting as an intern to where I am now, all in just 10 years!

It’s so motivating and when you get a compliment, it makes your heart sparkle.

Watching my team develop and thrive is another major motivator. I’ve had some excellent people beside me as I’ve grown and learnt, and I want to be there for my team in the same way. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the guidance I’ve had. When I’ve faced challenges – like broadening my facilities management knowledge beyond my food expertise – Sodexo has always provided that support and encouragement.

Yes, I’ve moved up the career ladder but for me, learning is more important than hierarchy, and everything stems from the relationships you build with people – colleagues, clients and the children.
