Sustainable Resource Management for Businesses

Limiting our waste enables us to support clients with their sustainability efforts. Conserving natural resources also saves money and positively impacts our own emissions. Through Better Tomorrow 2028 we’ll continue to improve the way we manage resources for our clients. We'll do this by further reducing food waste, preserving water resources and using more renewable energy sources.

Reducing food waste

More than one-third of the food produced globally is wasted, while 733 million people worldwide face hunger and food poverty. Wasted food is not just lost food. It also represents wasted money, water, energy, land, packaging, and transportation. We are committed to measuring and reducing our food waste by 50% by 2028. We will achieve this through ongoing work with our teams, clients, and suppliers.

Preserving water resources

The world is reliant on water to survive – including both drinking water and water for food production. Water-related risks are already affecting day-to-day operations for our clients as well as ourselves. These risks include water stress, flooding and water quality issues. Awareness raising, implementing good practices and choosing the right equipment are key to helping reduce the pressure on water.

Hybrid and electric fleet transition

Electric, hybrid, and alternative-fuel vehicles have a lower carbon impact and result in reduced carbon emissions. We are moving our directly operated fleet to cleaner energy sources in 10 of the countries in which we operate. This accounts for 80% of our fleet and we will complete this by 2028.

Deploying WasteWatch:
Food waste has a huge impact on the planet. Our WasteWatch program helps us reduce food waste at our client sites all over the world. WasteWatch makes it easy for our teams to measure food losses, identifies problems, and suggests changes to avoid waste. The program is in place at more than 85% of eligible sites to date and has reduced food waste by 47.6%.
Rescuing surplus food:
We work with suppliers, such as Yume and WasteKnot, to rescue food that would otherwise go to waste. We also have a surplus food donation program through NGOs and associations via Stop Hunger, our unique philanthropic cause.
Reducing single use plastic
Pollution caused by plastic packaging is negatively affecting the health of people and the planet. We reduce single-use plastic in catering and other services with three key actions. Preventing the use of disposables, shifting to reusables and sourcing any remaining disposables from a sustainable range. Our regional sourcing guides helps our teams around the world to follow this approach.
