Creating exceptional moments at the world's largest sporting events

A last-minute Super Bowl touchdown, a photo finish at Royal Ascot, a tense tiebreaker at Roland Garros – all heart-stopping sporting moments that enthrall spectators and keep them on the edge of their seats. Sodexo Live! is right there at the heart of the action, offering unforgettable catering and hospitality experiences at the world’s largest sporting events.

In February, Sodexo Live! brought its expertise to perhaps the most high-profile event in the global sporting calendar, Super Bowl LIX, the American football championship final. This marked our 16th Super Bowl, and with 62,000 spectators gathered at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, we needed to be at the top of our game.

While we expected some surprises on the field, our team is well rehearsed at the venue – we are a long-standing partner at Caesars Superdome, providing high-level services year-round for spectators at stadium events including NFL games featuring the hometown Saints , the NCAA Final Four college basketball tournament, and the Sugar Bowl, the national college football final.

Hosting the Super Bowl required meticulous team tactics and a tight game plan. Spectators arriving for the build-up to this iconic event were welcomed with pre-game festivities at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, National WWII Museum, Smoothie King Center, and Champions Square. For those lucky enough to have a ticket to the game, our team created a night to remember in the public areas and VIP boxes, with more than 250,000 meals in total served throughout the week.

Bringing global talent to the game

To meet the demand of such a high-profile event, we needed to strengthen our squad by mobilizing talent from teams around the world. Two chefs from the UK were among those who travelled to join the 4,000-strong team of ‘experience makers’.

Executive chef Gemma Amor from Egham and Jo Smith, Head of Hospitality from Ascot, are members of the world-class team that caters at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire year-round; so they know the importance of making the experience an unforgettable one for fans. Gemma and Jo joined a culinary team of 300 providing a menu inspired by the rich and emblematic flavors of New Orleans and Louisiana.

Cooking up the true taste of New Orleans

Detailed planning went into the event’s menus, with 40% of the produce sourced from local suppliers and a special partnership announced for the occasion – Marshall Faulk, a New Orleans native and former NFL player, took on the role of Chief Flavor Officer.

Spectators enjoyed a range of dishes including:

  • The Surf & Turf Po' Boy: a nod to Super Bowl LIX, composed of five savory shrimp and beef ribs smoked for nine hours.
  • The ‘Taste of Louisiana’ assortment: local specialties like chicken and sausage gumbo, as well as lobster and crawfish étouffée.
  • Seafood nachos: blackened Cajun shrimp with nacho cheese sauce garnished with seafood.
"New Orleans is a city celebrated for its food culture and distinctive flavor profile, and it was an honor to showcase that vibrance on a global stage,”
Carmen CalloExecutive Chef of Sodexo Live! in the United States.

“This was a unique opportunity to highlight dishes that define this city that we know and love, while introducing thousands of fans from around the world to the diverse flavors that make New Orleans one of the top food destinations. We wanted fans to eat at the Superdome and know they could only be in New Orleans.”

Creating more than just a meal

Sodexo Live! is passionate that food should be an integral part of the fans’ experience, and sales and feedback from the final proved the tastes of New Orleans were a hit with the 62,000+ strong crowd.

The success of the Super Bowl is the latest in a line of major events where Sodexo Live! has played a major role in making memories for thousands of fans, following on from 2024’s Olympic and Paralympic Games, held in Paris. Next on the sporting calendar is the Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
