Success stories
Elaine Gerkin, from the United States, has been a Field Supervisor on off-shore oil rigs since joining Sodexo in 2004.
"I have been Field Supervisor since I joined Sodexo. After a month of training offshore, I gained experience of different kinds of operations and different clients: Rowan (Gorilla 3 and Anchorage), Conoco Philips (Magnolia), BP (Marlin).
After having worked on two different types oil rigs, where I was supervising both men and woman, I took on responsibility for larger oil rigs and also the “Bahamas” project at the Four Seasons Resort Great Exuma. This is a contract for maintenance of public areas, mobilizing a team of 25 to 30 people. It was an opportunity to discover a different work culture on the islands, use my experience of managing employees from a distance and still ensure that there's a good team spirit on site.
I was looking for adventure, I wanted to progress professionally and meet new challenges. I am very happy with the way the team has progressed and I am thrilled to see that women also have the opportunity to prove themselves offshore.”
