97% of our employees are hired locally in the 80 countries where we operate. By establishing long-term partnerships, Sodexo seeks to play an active role in local community development.
We will fight hunger and malnutrition through our STOP Hunger program in all the countries where we operate by 2020.
STOP Hunger: a Sodexo initiative
As part of our commitment to the communities where we do business, Sodexo launched the STOP Hunger initiative to fight hunger and malnutrition. Since 1996, teams have been focused on this effort, working to change the fact that nearly one billion people suffer from hunger and malnutrition every day.
The STOP Hunger initiative has four major focus areas
Volunteering: encouraging and supporting Sodexo employees' spirit of service to support hunger relief initiatives in their local communities.
Sharing Sodexo expertise: sharing Sodexo’s technical knowledge in information and services with hunger relief workers and directly with those in need. Initiatives can include providing nutrition, food safety, food waste education, and job and life skills training.
Food donations: donating perishable and non-perishable food to hunger relief organizations.
Financial donations: sponsoring and supporting programs that combat hunger and malnutrition.
STOP Hunger initiative across 6 continents
Around the world, entire Sodexo communities, including employees, consumers, clients and suppliers are joining forces to make a difference and end hunger. In 2012, 42 Sodexo host countries were involved in hunger relief efforts, conducting 618 major STOP Hunger programs in collaboration with 573 NGOs and associations.

STOP Hunger Servathon
Each April, as part of our worldwide STOP Hunger initiative, employees around the world join forces to fight hunger in their local communities during the STOP Hunger Servathon. The 2012 operation was the most successful Servathon yet.
